Tempeh Bacon Recipe

1 8-oz package tempeh

2 Tbsp shoyu, tamari or soy sauce

1 Tbsp vegan Worcestershire sauce

2 tsp Liquid Smoke

1 Tbsp maple syrup

½ tsp garlic powder

1 Tbsp olive oil


1Slice the tempeh as thin as possible without it falling apart.

2In a baking dish or long rectangular dish, whisk together the remaining ingredients.

3Place the tempeh strips in the marinade, coating it on both sides. Allow to marinate for 10 minutes, flip and marinate another 10 minutes.

4In a large skillet, heat the olive oil. Add the tempeh strips and cook for 2 minutes over high-heat on each side until crispy.

5Gluten Allergy? Use a gluten-free tempeh.

6Soy Allergy? Use a black bean tempeh.

7Spoiler Alert: Tempeh Bacon will stay fresh in an air-tight container in the refrigerator for a week.

8Batch it up! Tempeh Bacon is a delicious side dish, but is also a great condiment on sandwiches, salads, baked potatoes and grain bowls.
