The Ultimate Vegan Cheese Sauce Recipe

1 ¼ cups (10 oz.) of jewel yam, cooked and peeled (about 1 large yam)

1 cup (8 oz.) of unsweetened almond milk (unsweetened oat milk works well too)

4 teaspoon of freshly squeezed lemon juice

½ cup (64 grams) of nutritional yeast

1 tablespoon of white miso (also known as sweet or mellow miso)

1 teaspoon of garlic powder

1 teaspoon of onion powder

1½ teaspoon of salt

½ teaspoon of siracha (optional)


1Pop your large jewel yam (which is an orange-fleshed variety of sweet potato) into the microwave and cook until soft, about 5-6 minutes. While the yam is cooking, add all of your other ingredients to a blender container: almond milk, lemon juice, nutritional yeast, white miso, garlic and onion powder, salt and optional siracha.

2Once the yam is fully cooked, carefully peel the skin away from the hot flesh, break it up into a few pieces, and add it to the blender container as well. Blend until all the ingredients are incorporated and the whole mixture is smooth and creamy. This will take about a minute, depending on your blender.
